Insert hook is 2nd chain from hook, YO, pull loop through.
Complete stitch with Normal return.
Short Row that is 1 stitch long completed.
Arrows point to loop and chain used for next short row.

Insert hook in marked chain, YO and pull a loop through.
Normal return.
Short Row that is 2 stitches long complete.
Arrows point to vertical loops and next chain for next row.

Fig.3
Short Row of 3 stitches now complete.
Continue working short rows, working last loop into next chain.

Fig. 4
First segment now complete. Grey hook has been inserted under all
the vertical loops
that will form the "chain" for the next set of short rows.

Fig.5
Next Short Row ready for the Return Row.
Continue Short Rows adding 1 more vertical loop from foundation row
each time.

Fig.6
2 segments are complete and marked with grey hooks.
Blue hook is ready to start 3rd segment.

Fig. 8
Insert hook in the free loops of the last stitch of the starting
chain
(at the center of disk)
YO, pull loop through those loops and 1 loop on hook.
See circled loops.
Circle shows hook pulled through 2 loops. It should be only 1
loop.

Fig. 9
Insert hook in the free loops of the next stitch,
YO , pull loop through the stitch and 2 loops on hook.
Lines show location of the remaining free loops.
Repeat from ** to ** until all loops are joined.

Join is complete. (Circled)

The picture shows a square disk with 1 section left to do.
The short rows are done as follows:
-Chain the needed number of loops.
-Pull up a loop in each chain to the next to last loop. Leave last
loop unworked. Work off in normal manner.
Next and remaining rows:
Work each row up to but not including the last stitch of the row
and work off in the normal manner.
The last row -as shown in the picture- will have 1 stitch.
Chain 1, insert hook in the end of the 1-stitch row just
completed
and finish in the normal manner.
Work a 2-stitch row in the normal manner, ending with the last
loop in the end of next row.
Work off in the normal manner.
Continue by increasing each new row by 1 stitch and having the last loop of the row in the end of the next row.
The last segment is complete ready to be joined to the first
segment.
Insert hook under free loops of last stitch of starting
chain,
YO and draw loop through the loops of the starting chain and 1 loop
on the hook.
YO and draw loop through the loops of the starting chain and 2
loops on the hook.
Continue to the end of the row.
Join is completed.
The join is circled in red.
