Pom-Pom Maker:(the commercial disks are nice but this does the
job a bit faster)
- Take a piece of cardboard 2" wide and about 6" long.
- Cut a 3" notch centered in one end.
- Cut 18" length of yarn. Fold double. Place in notch so you can
hold both ends with one hand.
- Wrap supply yarn 75 times around cardboard over the notch, then
cut yarn.
- Take one end of the doubled yarn and wrap it around the yarn,
then pull it tight and tie it.
- Take one tail of the mitten tie, thread it on a needle, and sew
it to the yarn wrapping around the pom-pom.
- Cut the pom-pom yarn free from the cardboard. Make 3 more
pom-poms to finish the mittens and1 extra for the top of the
hat.
Instead of pom-poms, tassles could be used:
- Cardboard is 6" long and 3" wide.
- Notch is cut near one side instead of in the middle.
- The mitten tie is tied to the top of the tassel instead of
around the yarn wrapping.
- Cut only the bottom of the tassel.(an extra 4" chain is needed
to tie the tassel to the top of the hat.
