Pattern uses a chain-10 to create either a panel of raised loops
or a panel of raised three strand braid.
This could be used as a panel on a sweater,
as edging on an afghan or where ever this sort of panel would be useful.

Materials:
Your choice of yarn and the appropriate hook.

Instructions:
Chain 11
Row 1: Sc in 3rd chain from hook and each of next 4 chain. Chain 10, sc in each of last 5 chain. Chain 1. Turn.
Row 2: Sc in first 2 sts, Front Post DC (fpdc) around post of next sc 2 rows below, sc in each of next 4 stitches, (work behind the chain-10), fpdc around post of next sc 2 rows below, sc in last 2 stitches.
Chain 1, Turn.
Row 3: Sc in first 5 sts, Chain 10, sc in each of last 5 stitches. Chain 1. Turn.
Row 4: Sc in first 2 sts, Front Post DC (fpdc) around fpdc below, sc in each of next 4 stitches, (work behind the chain-10), fpdc around fpdc below, sc in last 2 stitches.
Chain 1, Turn.

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 for length, ending pattern with row 4.

Finishing: Next Row: Sc in each st across. Do not work a Chain-10.
Chain 1, Turn.

Weave loops for either the loops or cables
(see instructions after last row instructions).

Last Row: Sc in each of first 2 sts, fpdc around fpdc below, sc in next st,
Work the top of the chain-10 loop and the next sc together twice, sc in next st,
fpdc around fpdc below, sc in last 2 sts.
Fasten off.

Loops:
Do not twist loops.
Starting at bottom of work, pull 2nd loop through first loop,
then pull 3rd loop through 2nd loop.
Continue in this manner to top of work.

Starting at bottom of work, Twist first loop 1/2 turn clockwise,
pull 2nd loop through first loop and twist 2nd loop 1/2 turn clockwise,
pull 3rd loop through 2nd loop and twist 3rd loop 1/2 turn clockwise.
Continue in this manner to top of work.

Chain 17

Row 1: Pull loop in top strand of 2nd chain from hook and each chain across.
Normal return.
Row 2: Normal forward row.
Return: YO, pull through 1 loop, YO, pull through 2 loops...chain 12, YO, pull through 2 loops...
[4 stitches, chain 12, 6 stitches, chain 12, 6 stitches, chain 12, 4 stitches]
Row 3: Normal forward row -pull chain forward and work 2 stitches behind it.
Normal return row.
Row 4: Normal forward and return.
Repeat rows 2, 3, and 4 for pattern.
Finish

Work 1 more row 4.
Weave loops:Pull 2nd loop through 1st loop,
3rd loop through 2nd loop...
1/2 twist clockwise or counterclockwise gives a braided look.
Last Row
Work normally to chain. Next 2 stitches are worked over the chain,
work normal to next chain, work 2 stitches over chain...
Normal return.

Bind off
Chain 1, slip stitch across
