The Tunisian Start Single Crochet is really a Basic Afghan Stitch row one stitch wide.
The key to working this single crochet is in working VERY loosely.
Procedure:
- Chain 2.
- Pull up a loop in the second chain from the hook.
- YO, and pull loop through.
- YO, and pull through 2 loops on hook.
First Single Crochet made.
- **Insert hook under bottom 2 strands of the single crochet just made
and pull a loop through.
- YO, and pull loop through 1 loop on hook.
- YO, and pull loop through 2 loops on hook.
Next Single Crochet made.
Repeat from ** for each Single crochet needed.
This side will be referred to
as the "tunisian" side and will be treated as the back of the fabric.
Chain 1, Turn.
Row 2:(Mark this row as "front" of fabric.)
Continue in rows with normal single crochet.
This side will be referred to as the "crochet" side.
Increase 3 stitches at both ends of the row:
- With the "crochet" side facing and at the end of the row -chain 4 LOOSELY.
- Work a single crochet in the 2nd back ridge from the hook and in each of the next 2 back ridge loops.
- Turn fabric so the "tunisian" side is facing and work a single crochet in each stitch of the previous row.
- Increase:Insert hook in the same stitch as last single crochet made,YO and pull a loop through.
- YO and pull a loop through 1 loop on hook.
- YO and pull loop through 2 loops on hook.
First single crochet made.
- **Insert hook under bottom 2 strands of the single crochet just made and pull a loop through.
- YO, and pull loop through 1 loop on hook.
- YO, and pull loop through 2 loops on hook.
Next Single Crochet made.
- Repeat from ** once more. 3 single crochet made. Chain 1, Turn. (crochet side now facing)
Work across row with normal single crochet.
