Materials:
2" hairpin lace loom
800 yards (700 metres) Sport Weight yarn to make a stole
approximately 30" by 60".
Hooks: 3.5 mm and 3.25 mm
Procedure:
12 strips, each with 435 loops will be needed.
Pattern is a multiple of 30 plus 15 loops.
HOWEVER: each strip will be edged and joined to the previous strip
before the next strip is made.
(195 loops makes about 28 inches of finished lace)
- Make 1st strip of 435 loops and remove from loom. DO NOT fasten
off.
- Keeping all loops twisted, chain 3, join with a slip
stitch
to the first chain of the chain 3 just made (Picot made),
- Chain 5, insert hook into the next 15 loops on the left
side,
draw the loop through and work one sc st.
- Chain 3 (Picot)
- *chain 5 (insert the hook into the next 3 loops,
draw loop through and work one sc st, Picot, chain 5) 5 times
- 1 Single Crochet through next 15 loops, Picot, *
- Repeat from * to end of strip.
- Chain 5, work 1 sc in the center work of the hairpin
lace, Picot.
You are now ready to start edging the opposite side of the strip.
- Repeat between the * until you reach the end of the second
side. Chain 5
- Fasten off.
Note:
- The left side of the strip starts and ends with a 15-loop
group.
- The right side starts and ends with the 5 separate groups of 3
loops joined.
- After each joining of groups of loops a picot stitch is
worked
- There is always a chain 5 between the joining of
loops.
Make the next strip of lace and edge the first side.
(Start and end with a 15-loop group)
Chain 5, single crochet in the center of the bottom edge of the
strip,
Picot, chain 5, and start the second side of the strip.
Work as before for the first 2 3-loop groups.
Joining second strip to first
- Place strips side by side on a table, completed strip to the
right of the unfinished strip,
with the lower edges facing you.
- Chain 5, join the next 3 loops with a single crochet, chain
2.
- Remove hook from the loop, insert hook in the center of the
picot on the first strip,
pull the loop through and work a slip stitch on the second strip to
finish picot.
(One picot has now been joined)
- Working on the unfinished strip, and placing chain 5 between
picots,
join the second strip to the first strip at each picot as
explained.
- At the top of the strip after the last picot has been
joined,
there will be 2 3-loop groups to work on the unfinished strip.
- Chain 5, join with a slip stitch to the center work where the
edging started.
- Fasten off.
Take note:
The picot of the 3rd 3-loop group of the unfinished strip
always joins to the picot of the 15-loop group of the previous
strip.
