Tips for Hairpin Lace
- Shortening the hook to 4 - 4 1/2" will make it easier to pass the hook through the loom,
especially when the loom is almost full.
- Wrap elastic bands around the crosspieces to secure them to the side pieces.
- Mark every 25th or 50th loop with a safety pin or split ring marker.
(I prefer the safety pin because it will not slip out.)
- If you are making a strip so long it will not fit in the loom,
remove the bottom cross piece and remove most of the loops.
Replace the crosspiece. Place the loop strip in a plastic bag and fasten the bag to the crosspiece.
Its a bit awkward but sure is better than having the loops get tangled.
- Hairpin Lace Looms are hard to find because the craft is not popular.
Try the small, independent yarn stores instead of the big box stores.
The small shops might be willing to order a loom for you.
- Some of the older Needlecraft Encyclopedia have lace stole and edging patterns
as well as some history of the craft.
